Maria Donovan has significant experience in the fields of public policy, communications, radio, non-profit organizations, legislative analysis and issue advocacy.

Maria, is currently Special Counsel to the Mayor of Mount Vernon, NY.  Preceding Mt. Vernon, she was Director of Research  & Policy at Empire Government Strategies where she worked on health care, energy, tax policy, infrastructure and transportation matters. She previously worked at the Family Research Council, a leading advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. She wrote and distributed press releases, op-eds for national publication, and email newsletters to constituents. She also assisted in the production of Washington Watch Weekly, a radio program heard on over two hundred stations across the United States and Canada.

She has worked as a volunteer on several political campaigns. While in law school, she volunteered for the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund clinic, assisting eligible persons injured in the September 11th attacks and subsequent site cleanup.

Maria holds a B.A. from New York University and a J.D. from Hofstra University’s School of Law. 

Originally hailing from the Commonwealth of Virginia, she now resides in Queens, NY with her husband, Christopher.
